Did you know that there’s one type of storm that, according to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (The NOAA is the U.S. Agency responsible for monitoring national weather patterns) that causes $1 billion in damage to crops and property each year? Hailstorms! And since Hail can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to your vehicle, it definitely becomes worth it to know what to do during a hail storm!
If you are on the road during a hailstorm, try to pull over under some sort of cover and wait it out! Places like covered gas stations, parking garages, and tree cover can be very useful during these moments! Sometimes you can find a bank drive-thru that has covering over an ATM that can be helpful as well!
If you park your car outside without shelter, try to keep some large and thick blankets in your trunk! Placing thick blankets over your car during hailstorms can help prevent a lot of force from the impact of the ice from creating a dent! But, say for instance you didn’t have a thick blanket to put over your car? What you could do is place your floor mats and trunk mats on top of your car! It may not prevent all dents from happening, but at least you prevented it from being much worse!
Staying up-to-date with the weather is probably the best way to prevent damage to your car! By doing so you can make sure your car is safe and under cover when hail is in the forecast, and although this may not prevent you from being in a hailstorm—it will greatly reduce it!
Keep these tips in mind to keep yourself and your car happy through the winter months (And those freak hail-storms in July too!)
