How To Protect Your Car From Hail Damage!

January 24, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

hail-1614239_960_720-2Did you know that there’s one type of storm that, according to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (The NOAA is the U.S. Agency responsible for monitoring national weather patterns) that causes $1 billion in damage to crops and property each year? Hailstorms! And since Hail can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to your vehicle, it definitely becomes worth it to know what to do during a hail storm!

If you are on the road during a hailstorm, try to pull over under some sort of cover and wait it out! Places like covered gas stations, parking garages, and tree cover can be very useful during these moments! Sometimes you can find a bank drive-thru that has covering over an ATM that can be helpful as well! hail-damage-1272030_960_720

If you park your car outside without shelter, try to keep some large and thick blankets in your trunk! Placing thick blankets over your car during hailstorms can help prevent a lot of force from the impact of the ice from creating a dent! But, say for instance you didn’t have a thick blanket to put over your car? What you could do is place your floor mats and trunk mats on top of your car! It may not prevent all dents from happening, but at least you prevented it from being much worse!

hail-273293_960_720Staying up-to-date with the weather is probably the best way to prevent damage to your car! By doing so you can make sure your car is safe and under cover when hail is in the forecast, and although this may not prevent you from being in a hailstorm—it will greatly reduce it!

Keep these tips in mind to keep yourself and your car happy through the winter months (And those freak hail-storms in July too!)

How To Be a Better Driver in the Rain

January 10, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

skyline-963526_960_720Did you know that almost half of all accidents that occur in the U.S. are due to the rain? The U.S. Department of Transportation states that over 700,000 accidents per year are caused by the rain, and the number is continually going up due to more and more drivers being on the road each and every year! As all of us will experience rain in our driving careers more times than we’d like, it’s important to know a few things that will decrease your chances at getting into a rain-related accident!

The first and best thing you can do is to slow down! When you are going at faster speeds in the rain, your tires are not able to grip onto the road and it will cause you to lose control! The best way to visualize how to safely drive in the rain: Imagine yourself car-2607059_960_720driving with a large triple layer wedding cake in your backseat, and you are taking it to your sister’s wedding—you wouldn’t want to be the one to say you ruined her cake, thus you will drive slower and safer than normal! So when it is raining, just drive with same care for your life and slow down in the rain!

The next tip is something that a lot of drivers forget about in the rain: Increase the distance you follow other cars with! Normally in dry weather you want to be 2-3 car lengths behind the driver in front of you, but when it’s raining, and especially if you are on a highway—make that gap bigger so you can give yourself more room to brake! Hydroplaning is the main cause of wrecks in the rain, and if you slam on the brakes due to being too close to another driver you might end up in an accident! Remember that blur-1845534_960_720accidents on the road can happen in a blink of an eye—just give yourself more distance to avoid it!

This next tip is a very useful one: Do not use cruise control in the rain! The cruise control computer on most cars will not be able to tell if it is raining and might cause your car to accelerate when caught in a hydroplane—which is the last thing you want to happen! If you find yourself in a hydroplane movement, just let off the gas and pump the brakes until you gain back control!

The bottom line is to just exercise caution when it is raining, and if at all possible, try to avoid driving in the rain if you can! Getting into an accident just is not worth it!

How Can I Lower My Car Insurance Premium?

January 25, 2019 By Flor Caballero Lynch

Driving safe does not include texting at the wheel!

This is a common question that we all have had when looking at how much we have to pay on our car insurance statements. Thankfully, there are quite a few things that you can do to lower your premiums that you can do on your own!

The first and foremost has to be: drive safe! By driving safe you are reducing the risk of getting a ticket (Which usually raises your premiums), and better yet reducing the risk of getting yourself into an accident! By keeping a clean driving record you will qualify for lower rates, and companies will be more willing to insure you!

automotive-1866521_960_720

Another way to lower your rate would be to share a policy with someone you live with, for instance if you live with a spouse who has a stellar driving record then sharing a policy would most likely lower the overall rate! But like all other things, always do the math and find out if this is the best route for you to take!

You can lower your rate by always maintaining your coverage, with absolutely no lapse in policies (This means not even for a day!), and by paying the premium in full at the beginning of your policy. Doing this shows your insurer that you are reliable, and this goes a long way with saving you money with your premiums!

What is Gap Insurance?

January 18, 2019 By Flor Caballero Lynch

vw-camper-336606_960_720

As the old adage goes: You lose 10% of value the moment you drive your new car off the lot. This drop in value creates a “gap” that is hard to cover for most people if an accident occurs on a financed car, and this is where Gap Insurance comes into play!

traffic-332857_960_720

Gap Insurance pays the difference between the balance of a loan on a vehicle and what your insurance company pays if it is stolen or totaled in an accident. If you are looking to insure a financed car, this will be a coverage that you would use to cover what you owe on the car in full if it is totaled or stolen and the car insurance payout is too low!

Unless you are buying rare exotic sports cars, your car will depreciate in value relatively quickly and you may end up with a lower payout than what you owe if you have an accident. It’s best to be prepared for all scenarios, and this is always a good type of coverage to consider!\

What is Comprehensive Coverage?

January 11, 2019 By Flor Caballero Lynch

insurance-1991212_960_720

You have probably have heard someone say, “I have full coverage” and just nodded your head not really knowing what it really means—I have before, and I think we all have at one point! Full Coverage in the insurance world is usually referred to as Comprehensive Coverage since it means you are covered through just about any type of incident you could run into!

Comprehensive Coverage includes the normal ‘collision coverage’ which covers damage caused by a car accident no matter who is at fault, but it also includes other events such as hail, fire, flooding, and even theft! It is a good idea to have this type of coverage on a car that is new or expensive to repair since prices can get pretty high when repairing damages!

car-accident-1995852_960_720

Comprehensive Coverage can be expensive, but the premium amounts usually depend on the driver and the car that they are driving. Compared to a 18 year old in a V8 coupe with 3 tickets to their name already, a 35 year old driving a truck with a solid driving record will have a much lower premium!

In sum, Comprehensive coverage can be a great way to mitigate the damage to your checkbook after an accident, as well as helping repair your car!

November 4, 2011 By Aaronflorlynch

An umbrella policy is what it sounds like. It provides an additional layer of protection to your existing auto and property insurance policies. If you exceed the coverages provided by those policies, an umbrella policy will cover the lack.

July 15, 2011 By Aaronflorlynch

If you are a business owner, you may be contemplating whether you need to purchase a commercial auto insurance policy. Perhaps you hired a new employee who will be making deliveries for your company.
