Tips On Better Bundling

June 26, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

architecture-1836070_960_720If you are out there trying to find the best insurance bundle for yourself and your property you should take a good look at (And keep in mind!) these 3 huge tips so you can maximize your benefits for the least amount of money!

  1. Regularly shop quotes and compare them to your own over a period of time—both separate and bundled—even when you aren’t looking to switch! When you find coverage that comes at the right price you can switch over with confidence knowing you did your homework!
  2. Always compare quotes for bundled policies as well as separate policies from several insurance companies online or just call your agent to see which company can give you the best prices! Just remember, some agents sell exclusively for one company and can only offer a discount for their company—no offense to them but, it’s better to shop around than to stay under one roof!
  3. Remember that bundling policies does make it more likely that you will stay with the same company, and due to this an insurance company may start to inch up rates over time without you really noticing! Keep an eye on your own bundle and refer back to tip #2, you shouldn’t be paying more than you need to for great coverage!

houses-1150022_960_720Bundling is a great way to save money and make life a little easier for yourself! Remember to consider having your coverages bundled to really reap the benefits of being fully insured!

Bundling to Save Money During The Pandemic!

June 19, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

piggybank-2913293_960_720In this day and age, saving money where you can has become a very important part of life! All around the country and even around the world people are seeing the squeeze and are looking for ways to save! Thankfully one of the easiest and cheapest ways to help you save money can come in the form of a simple phone call to your insurance agent!

Most companies don’t limit bundling to just home and auto insurance—if you have other types of coverages with another company you can try to unify them under one company in order to get a discount! To find out if it benefits your bank account simply call your insurance provider or agent and ask what kinds of discounts they can offer you if you added your coverage sto a bundled plan!

dollar-3259363_960_720

Most major companies have a set of bundling policies and discounts for customers to
utilize, and since we need each dollar to go as far as it can it is worth giving your agent a call to find out what can be done! Don’t be shy and always know that your agent wants to talk to you if you have any questions or want to change anything about your coverages!

Should I Bundle My Home And Car Insurance?

June 9, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

real-estate-475875_960_720Should I bundle? This is a question that every insurance customer should ask themselves if and when they have multiple policies on their assets! If find that you wanted a stronger relationship with your company, trying to insure a property that is considered “risky”, or cannot find a better price using multiple company—then bundling is probably the best option for you!

A friend of mine had a property that was considered risky due to the property having an old thatched building on it (Straw roofs are no fun!) that he was planning on tearing down after he could get permits to do so! He had issues getting a decent price on insuring it but thought, “Hey, I could call my insurance agent and see what they can do” and ended up getting a decent rate on his property due to his existing coverages on his house and Truck! It also helped him get a better rate on the Renovation Insurance that he needed later on!

One of the biggest factors why people choose to bundle would be the convenience factor financing-3536755_960_720of only having to pay one company for all their policies! I should also add that customers who bundle their policies also tended to be more satisfied and happier with their company than those that did not! If you want to feel warm and fuzzy about your company, and like the ease of only paying one (Usually cheaper!) bill then you should definitely consider bundling!

What Does (And Doesn’t) Homeowner’s Insurance Cover?

April 24, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

houses-2230817_960_720If you have a homeowner’s policy you will know that there are different types of coverages that exist—but an interesting fact is that J.D. Power & Associates did a study in 2019 and found that 52% of policyholders didn’t know what their policy actually covers! And that meant that homeowners didn’t know both what is covered and what coverages they should actually have for themselves!

Policies usually have Dwelling Coverage as the main part of a policy—which covers your home! Personal Property Coverage, which covers things you own within your home. And Other Structure Coverage, which covers other buildings on your property such as a garage, driveway, fences—anything that isn’t created by nature that is on your property pretty much!

There is another component that is usually a part of a Homeowner’s Insurance policy, and it is very beneficial: Personal Liability Coverage! If you had someone get hurt on your property and it was your fault you would be covered—or if you damaged someone else’s property, you would be covered! It can cover legal fees too!holiday-house-177401_960_720

What isn’t covered on a standard policy is a bit confusing too since you will probably think you will be covered if one of these happens! Acts of God such as earthquakes and flooding are usually not covered, if the sewer backs up into your house you probably aren’t covered, or things like mold/termites in the walls of your home! To get these covered you will have to get a separate policy in order to do so!

What this all means is you should talk to your insurance agent and carrier about everything that you want covered and what policies you will need to get to cover any gaps in coverage! Never be afraid to ask!

Summer Heat and Your Home

April 21, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

ice-cream-cone-1274894_960_720With each coming year, the weather seems to get warmer and warmer with each coming summer season! While most Homeowner’s Insurance policies cover claims that involve extreme heat temperatures, there are situations that can be avoided all together (And keep your Homeowner’s Insurance premium low) with some simple maintenance around your home!

Common claims in the summer can range from damage from their electrical system due to a rolling blackout, or leaking pipes due to a thirsty tree’s root getting into a pipe, or a rupture due to higher pressure in water lines due to increased water usage! Using things like an updated circuit breaker and surge protectors go a long way, picking  trees that are “sewer-safe” and planting them at least 10 feet away from any existing pipelines underground! But for existing problems involving trees getting into water lines and leaky pipes within walls it’s hard to fix once the problem has already started—always keep an eye on it and never allow the damage to progress, get a professional to look at it ASAP!

If you live in an area that is prone to getting summer storms you should make sure the architecture-1845689_960_720drainage on and around your house is working properly! It is a horrible situation to find out during a hard rain that one of your rain gutters is clogged and is pooling water on your roof! Flood damage is also something to keep in mind as well, while you are checking the gutters to your house make sure all the pathways rain takes to run off your property work properly too!

Summer is a time to enjoy the outdoors and relaxing in the sun, and I know it’ll be much easier to relax as a homeowner when you know you have all your summer weather precautions covered!

How Are You Sure Your Homeowner’s Insurance Ready For Summer?

April 14, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

vw-camper-336606_960_720The days are getting longer, the cold weather is getting warmer, and you’re spending more time outside—this must mean that summer is almost here! We all can use some warm sunshine and better weather these days, but with the coming of summer it comes time to look at your Homeowner’s Insurance policy to make sure you still can have a great time this summer without any worry!

An example of a summer activity that would require you to review your homeowner’s policy would be building a fire pit in your backyard! Fire pits and open grills come with their own unique sets of risks, and while most Homeowner’s Insurance policies usually cover grilling activity and conventional grills—fire pits and other kinds of barbecue structures might not be covered on your policy! Another thing to consider would be local ordinances—some municipalities might not allow a fire pit to be built due to local Burn Laws, or due to the proximity of the pit to the home itself! Remember that Homeowner’s Policies do not cover damages caused by illegal activity, so keep that in mind!

If you are planning on doing any home repairs this summer make sure you have adequate insurance protection! Talk with your agent or carrier to find out if your policy will still function if you are doing work to your home—if not ask about Builder’s Risk Policy to get yourself covered! Contractor’s usually have some type of liability insurance associated with their business, but it is always better to be safe than sorry!

financing-3536755_960_720If you already have a pool you’ve likely added coverage for any pool-related mishaps that might occur, but if you are building a new pool (Even an above-ground pool!) you will have to let your insurance carrier know! Swimming pools create a whole new dimension of risk for any homeowner and will always need to be covered under their homeowner’s policy to make sure you’re covered if anything goes wrong!

Before you kick up your feet next to the pool this summer, take a look at your policy to see that it is primed and ready to protect you no matter how you choose to enjoy the summer season!

How Can I Save Money On Homeowner’s Insurance?

April 3, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

earth-1149733_960_720As Bob Dylan sang in 1963, “The Times They Are A-Changin’”, and now in 2020 the song still holds true—we are facing drastic changes, and with these changes come a new set of challenges for just about everyone around the globe! With people needing to stretch their assets further and further, it becomes a necessity to trim down their expenses anywhere they can, and homeowner’s insurance is sometimes one of those expenses that some don’t know can be reduced through being proactive and by working with your insurance carrier!credit-squeeze-522549_960_720

First way to reduce the cost of your insurance would be to bundle any existing policies that you might have, such as if you have an Auto Insurance policy with another company—it would be worth it to ask for a discount on them both if you were to bundle them together with a single company! Insurance companies love it when you give them more business—if you can convince them you will switch for a discount, they might take you up on it!

Raising your credit score can also vastly help your Homeowner’s Insurance rates since insurers use this information to determine your premium payments! Depending on the insurance company and the state you reside, your credit history can increase your Homeowner’s Insurance rates by almost 30%! Make sure that you keep up with your payments and keep the amount of credit you use to a minimum in order to benefit from a lower rate!

Making your home safer can also help you save money on Homeowner’s Insurance! If you have an up-to-date home security system, a damage resistant roof (Metal roofing is a good example), or anything that makes your house a safer place to be in you can probably use it to help get a discount on your premium rates! Just make sure that the cost of the upgrade does not outweigh the discount amount!

There are many other ways to gain a discount with an insurance company, and I find it worth it to always ask! It’s better to ask than to wonder!

What To Do If Your Pipes Freeze!

January 31, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

icicles-3529002_960_720If you wake up one day and find that your water is barely running or not at all when you try to turn on a faucet, you probably have a frozen pipe! You will probably also immediately notice that it is extremely cold to the touch too! Thawing a pipe can be a very, very expensive scenario to take care of if done improperly—and if you have ever experienced this, you will definitely know that bursting pipes are not fun!

Thawing pipes is usually a simple process to take care of, first just turn off your water main (It’s usually in front of the house, if not call your water company to find out!), and slightly open a faucet to allow it to drain while it naturally thaws! To speed the process up, you can use things like pouring warm (Never hot!) water on the pipe, or even running a hair dryer over the frozen pipe to help the ice melt!

It is always good to repair cracks in walls, missing bricks, holes in insulation when you ice-3173982_960_720have the opportunity so that all of your pipes in your home can stay at a reasonable temperature! Another good trick is to slightly have a couple of faucets drip-running at all times during the cold to keep the water in your home’s pipes thawed and in motion! It’s alright if water pipes get somewhat cold, but your main goal is to prevent them from freezing over!

If you find your pipes are freezing each year, you might want to consider getting your pipes insulated, hooked up to a pipe heater, or placed lower in the ground! These are all expensive in their own right, but it might save your house from catastrophic damage during a cold front! Always remember it is usually less expensive to prevent water damage, than it is to repair water damage—take care of your house so your house can take care of you!
