Under the American Rescue Plan signed into law by President Biden earlier this year, people who buy their health insurance from the Healthcare.gov Marketplace are eligible to receive increased tax credits towards their health insurance beginning April 1st, 2021 as a response to the ongoing COVID-19 and 21 Pandemic!

If you have received any unemployment compensation through the year of 2021 or were eligible to receive it, you will also be able to access another increase in savings starting July 16th going through August 15th! If you enrolled through a state-based marketplace should check your state’s website or talk to their insurance agent to find out about if and how the American Rescue Plan will be implemented in their state—and when that state’s enrollment period will be!

If you are unhappy with your coverage so far through the year of 2021 this can be your opportunity to change your coverage! This can also be an opportunity to help save some money during these unsure times in a pandemic! Don’t hesitate to ask your insurance agent for help, and hurry before time runs out!

2021 Open Enrollment for Health Insurance Is Here!

November 11, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

Starting November 1st and going on until December 15th you will be able to enroll or renew your health insurance plan for 2021 through Open Enrollment! As you are getting yourself ready to talk with your agent you should keep a few things in mind!

  1. Enrollment lasts for 6 weeks only! If you do not get enrolled within this timeframe you won’t be able to enroll or renew your coverage until next year in preparation for 2022—be sure to do any changes you need now or you might miss your chance! (This is unless you qualify for a special enrollment period!)
  2. If you like your current plan and want to keep it, you should let your agent know of any changes that you have had over the year! Things such as having a child, a death in the family, and changes in income all can have differences in coverage and pricing—you don’t want to miss out on a potential savings!
  3. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask questions! Getting life insurance does not have to be daunting, it can be pretty simple if you just ask the right questions! If you have any confusion at any point do not be afraid to ask your agent, they have valuable insight and likely have been through the process enough times to know the answers to most questions!

Take advantage of Open Enrollment this year if you haven’t already, because these 6 weeks will fly by before you know it!

Should My Business Be Fully Insured or Self-Funded Employee Healthcare?

May 29, 2020 By Flor Caballero Lynch

business-3365326_960_720During these scary times it becomes imperative to save your business and your employees money on healthcare, and just finding an adequate health plan for your business is half the battle! When you are a small business owner you may become a bit overwhelmed with the choices that you have when it comes to health insurance plans for your business, but all you really have to know from the get-go is: Does my business need a Fully-Insured Healthcare Policy, or a Self-Funded Healthcare Plan?

The most famous one of the two categories of insurance would be Fully-Insured plans. These types of plans follow a simple path: You pay a premium to an insurance provider and have all insurance liabilities go through them. This arrangement does insulate your business from claims that can cost a lot and might be a little more simple to set-up, but it can cost more than other alternatives—which brings us to our next category: Self-Funded Plans!

Self-Funded plan are usually the other category that businesses fall into having, and vienna-1276396_960_720these are usually cheaper than a fully-insured plan—and I should add: Cheaper while within optimal conditions! If your Self-Funded plan has a lot of claims and high administrative overhead it might be more than a Fully-Insured plan, but in the end a Self-Funded plan usually comes out to be cheaper!  There also is another incentive to keep in mind if you are open to having a Self-Funded plan: they are exempt from most state premium taxes!

It is worth it to take a look at both with your insurance agent and see if your business would benefit from either! If you have a smaller business that might fall under the thresholds to get one of these plans there are alternatives as well! Help your business and your employees by having the best insurance plan for your needs, and at the best price!

Information You Should Have When Selecting a Health Plan

November 22, 2019 By Flor Caballero Lynch

healthcare-4235817_960_720If you are buying Health Insurance it is good to have certain pieces of information beyond your personal information at your fingertips—doing so will make your health insurance buying experience a bit better and will help you paint a better picture as to what you need to get!

First and foremost, if you currently have an insurance plan you should look into if you find the coverage to be adequate and also if you are able to access the doctors you like with your current insurance! If you answered ‘no’ to either of those questions you will need to let your insurance agent know so they can find you a better fit for the upcoming year!

Second: Make a record of what income you made last year and what income you expect to make next year! By doing this you are able to find if you are eligible to receive a subsidy from the federal government! The reason is that if you are under a certain level of income you can qualify for assistance that will make your cost lower—and honestly it is always worth it to find out! balloons-1175297_960_720

Third: Find out if your current level of healthcare spending is to your liking! If you look at your healthcare costs over the past year and feel that it was too high of a level then it might be time to find a better plan for yourself and your wallet!

The bottom line to all of this is: You can and should work with your insurance agent to find a coverage that works for you, both in terms of premium and deductible—so do not be afraid to ask!

Common Open Enrollment & Health Insurance Questions

November 15, 2019 By Flor Caballero Lynch

obama-1301891_960_720-2During Open Enrollment you may have quite a few questions about the process and what can be done during this period of time! There are a few common questions that I have heard each year that I wanted to share and go over so you have a better idea of how everything works!

Do I have to sign up for all other types of insurance during Open Enrollment? The answer to this question is: No, you don’t have to! Open Enrollment is meant for the Health Insurance marketplace, and other insurance coverages can be bought at any other time—but that is not to say it might be easier to get it all done at once!

What if I already have a plan from last year? You should definitely review your plan to see if you want any changes to be made, like adjusting the cost, or adjusting your coverage! If you found over the year that your coverage was not up to your liking then it might be time to find a better plan or insurance provider! It never hurts to ask or to check what coverage you have!

When is Open Enrollment? This is a common, but very important question! Open Enrollment runs from November 1st and ends December 15th—so this only leavesbless-you-1175296_960_720 you with a 6 week window during the year to enroll in health insurance! If you do not enroll during this time you will have to go without until you have a “qualifying life event”, like giving birth to a child or getting a new job! Open Enrollment is a very important time of the year, and it should not be overlooked—even if you have insurance, and especially if you do not, Open Enrollment is a great time to take care of any issues you have with your insurance coverage (Or lack thereof)!

Health Insurance And Why It Is Essential

November 8, 2019 By Flor Caballero Lynch

insurance-3906680_960_720With the changes to healthcare requirements in 2020, we will start to see a larger amount of people who will be going without health insurance since new changes in the law say that there will no longer be a penalty for not having insurance!

I will start this out by saying: You should not go without health insurance—ever. The reason being is you might run into a health issue or accident that could completely ruin you financially or you might not be able to afford treatment—making your ailment worse! If you break your leg without insurance it can cost up to $7,000 out of pocket versus a $150 deductible with insurance!

We have all heard the stories where medical bills have ruined people and families, but due to recent laws we all now have the ability to enroll in healthcare coverage and finally end the cycle of financial failure due to medical bills! Medical debt affects about 80 million Americans each year and it is an issue that can be avoided by keeping and utilizing health insurance obtained during Open Enrollment!

Never allow yourself to fall into the notion that it is okay to go without insurance! Talk toinsurance-1991276_960_720-2 your agent about what you can do if you find yourself without health insurance coverage—especially during Open Enrollment, which is happening right now! Financial ruin due to untimely medical issues can be a thing of the past if you set up and keep health insurance coverage for yourself!

Health Insurance Changes To Look Out For In 2020

November 1, 2019 By Flor Caballero Lynch

dollar-1175293_960_720Shopping for health insurance can be overwhelming and with the new changes that come each year it can feel like you’re in over your head! Just like last year, 2020 will have some changes that may affect your insurance decision—and it’s always best to know what you are getting into beforehand!

The first change you should be aware of is that Short Term Health Plans are still available to those who need them! When the Affordable Care Act was first introduced these plans were only allowed to be used for 3 months, but now these plans can be used for up to 12 months! But be sure to remember that these plans do not typically cover maternity care or mental health! These plans are usually used by people with unexpected gaps in their coverage until they can get enrolled onto another full coverage plan!

Next change you will see is that there is no longer a tax penalty for not having health insurance coverage! It is never recommended to not have coverage due to the off-chance that something may happen to you—but if you do not have coverage in 2020 you won’t be penalized on your tax return! emergency-room-3323451_960_720

Another welcomed change to the Health Insurance marketplace in 2020 can be seen in premium prices becoming more stable and predicable! There will be less change in prices, and in some cases prices have been decreasing! You will also start to notice more of a variety in choice in insurance providers as well—if you had limited options last year it might be worth it to check your 2020 options with your insurance agent today!

Shopping Around Always Saves Money, Let Your Agent Do That For You

December 28, 2018 By Flor Caballero Lynch

save-1720971_960_720

It’s always nice to have someone help you save money, especially when it’s in their best interest to do so. Independent agents are there to help you, and usually they can do this by giving you the best coverage for the least amount of money! They want to keep your business for when you have to renew, due to this it is not in their interests to push insurance products that are of no use to you or your checkbook.

Outside of just price, independent agents have a vast understanding of the way different companies work, so they can lend insight to the claim process with each company. This might be an important factor for some and this can be a valuable tool in your search as well!

money-1885540_960_720-2

A captive agent may steer you towards a certain product knowing that you will probably come back if you are exhibiting that level of loyalty to go with a single company in the first place! Avoid that conflict of interest and go with an independent agent in order to be good to yourself, your assets, and your wallet!
